In Kim's words...
Have you ever said, "I'm dying of thirst?"
I have too, but I didn't really mean it. We really don't spend too much time thinking about water -- it's everywhere we go. For us, it's no big deal to get up and make coffee, hop in the shower, brush our teeth and use the toilet. We just turn a knob and it's there. We take clean water for granted every single day. But almost a billion people on earth don't take water for granted - it's one of their biggest daily challenges. Women and children literally have to walk hours each day to collect dirty water from muddy ponds and rivers. And much of that water is infested with bacteria, parasites or leeches. 20% of the children in Africa don't make it to the age of five and at least 1 baby dies each day beacause of the unhealthy water. I'm asking you to help me raise $5000 to provide a well for a village that has no fresh water available. "Charity: water" will use 100% of our donations to directly fund this project. Even better, when the project is complete, I'll invite you all to come and watch a video of our village getting fresh water for the 1st time - from the well we provided for them! In the spirit of the campaign, as soon as we've reached the goal, I will drink ONLY water for one month. While I have been pretty dehydrated, I've never actually been dying of thirst. I know we'd all like to see a world where no one does. |
