Last year we picked up a book. In the pages of that book were stories of hunger, poverty, disease and thirst.

We're going to focus on thirst.

We found out that, all over the world, women and children couldn't go to school or work because they had to walk many miles, each day, to fetch water. Not only did they have to walk long distances, but the water they were fetching was nothing you or i would ever think of drinking, it's full of dirt, bacteria and disease.

Because hours were spent fetching water, the women had no time to earn an income, and the children had no time to get an education. I bet you see where this is going...

We thought if we could give someone clean water right in their village, they could turn that time into something productive. Their water could become a source of life instead of a source of sickness and death.

That's when we found Charity: Water.

We'll be starting our journey on April 5, 2010 from Springer Mountain and we'll walk approximately 5 million steps, the average number of steps someone would make in a year to fetch water, to finish on Mt. Katahdin in Maine.
