Along the Animas River in Colorado, the Environmental Protection Agency has accidentally spilled approximately three million gallons of wastewater from an abandoned mine on August 5, 2015. Given the toxic condition of the water, officials have stopped pumping water into a river reservoir, and it is predicted that roughly 1,000 wells may be contaminated. While the spill is being examined and cleaned up, it is possible that residents along the river may be without clean, safe, drinking water.

Therefore, a charity: water well or two may allow residents to still have access to clean drinking water while the Animas River is being cleaned up.
