Why Daniel Galmarini is fundraising for clean water

I feel like I have been given many opportunities in life and great experiences to go along with it. I am very grateful for everything that I have. The thing that bothers me is that I am constantly surrounded by new updated technology and innovations that are just making our convenient lives even more convenient. I witness people everyday becoming impatient with the most insignificant situations and they don't realize that it just doesn't matter.

So to keep my mind away from all these things I cannot change but would like to, I decided to start off small with this campaign. I want to focus on trying to do something good for people that actually need help and will fully appreciate when a new innovation (for some people something as simple as a well) comes into their life.

At some point I realized that most of my weekends I spend at the bars doing quite a bit of drinking. The morning after, I feel useless. Then I become the one complaining to myself about how bad this sucks and that I don't feel like doing anything. So, to snap out of this mindset I came up with an idea:

I plan to donate 25% of the amount of money I spend at the bars to this charity.

I feel like since this is something I do every weekend, I might as well make something good come out of it... since that rarely happens from what I can recall.

It would be cool to get others to join me as well. Doesn't have to be any % of the beer drank at the bars either, that's just what I plan on doing. You can put aside $1 in a separate pocket for a beer or two bought at the bar. And if it's not beer that you overly indulge yourself in, than think of something excessive that you do that is a waste of your money and consider bettering yourself as a person by giving some of that money to others who need it.

Think about how much water you waste in a day. Then know that with one flush of a toilet, that is the amount of water that some people try to survive on in some countries. Most people don't realize the effect they make on this world unless it directly applies to themselves.

I also hope to not make people feel guilty or upset for drinking or using water how they want, there is nothing wrong with doing it. Many people probably don't even think that this issue with water is that important. This is just something simple I plan on doing that will make me feel a whole lot better when I have those rough mornings.

We all know that there comes a point in the night where you shouldn't have had that last beer or to have another beer wouldn't do you any good. Or even better, checking your online statements the next day and finding out you paid 5 times more than you expected. I want to try and turn that wasted money into something more meaningful. That money will help others get the water they need, help yourself from unpleasant side effects (whatever that may be), and definitely help motivate me in my small goal.

mycharity: water guarantees that

1. 100% of the money raised will go to direct project costs

2. Your donors will be able to see on mycharity: water the water projects they helped fund when they're finished.

3. If you reach your goal of $5,000, we'll recognize you on the water point in the village you helped.

Here are some other water fact sources I found that helped motivate me to donate...
