Hello, lovely friends!!! : )
I've been inspired by Iman Hall and her spirit of giving and serving on her Birthday, and have decided to also use this opportunity to start a campaign and help others have water!
In my Global Health class last semester we learned that everyone needs at least 50 liters a day to cook, clean, drink and stay sanitary every day... Wow! How easy it is for us to get that much, but so hard for some others living in countries where there are many parasites in the water, the water is contaminated, or water's not easily accessible. I read Richard Stearn's book "The Hole in Our Gospel" (http://www.theholeinourgospel.com/) last year and learned that there's a word in an African language that means both water and life, because without water there is no life. I think that's why Jesus compared the spirit to water, and David the desiring of God as thirsting for water; thirst and the necessity of water are understood and are part of all of humankind. We're all the same, really. We ALL love, we ALL cry, we ALL hope, we ALL dream. What must a little boy in Ethiopia dream about? (Hopefully someday I find out, but) maybe a well nearby so he can go to school. But what a special opportunity to be a part of realizing someone else's dream! To help build a well to enable children to go to school instead of being required to walk miles to gather enough water for the day!
"Freely you have recieved, freely give."-Jesus to his disciples in Matthew 10:8. : ) I'm aspiring to let this be a reflexive part of my life. Hopefully someday it will be, but not without laying a careful foundation and starting now. Maybe you will join me and do the same!
The url for my campaign is www.//h2o4everyone, because water is a basic need and human right. $204 is the goal because of the url... I like it when things coincide and complement. I also like puns. : )
If you want to ponder basic human rights and the interconnectedness of people, as well as the relatedness of care and provision, here is one of my favorite documents: http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/index.shtml
Thanks for looking at my page, and I hope and pray you'll be a part of something bigger to help provide others with part of a well! ($204 won't build a well, but it's certainly a start!)
Love, Hillary : )
oh Hillary, you are beautiful indeed. "For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”[a] made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ". -2 Corinthians 4:6
