Dear All,
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned an exciting project. Some of you have somehow guessed that it’s water related. That’s true! As you may know, I have a very fun day job. I’m working in a large corporation to reduce water consumption in our manufacturing plants globally. Since I started this role a year ago, I’m deeply immersed in the world water crisis. Not only is water becoming a scarce resource due to climate change, increased population, etc. but 3.5 million people (1.5 million children) die every year due to water related diseases.
Can you imagine walking 3 miles every day just to access water? One billion people on the planet do not have access to water and millions of women and children have to walk hours each day to get water from muddy ponds and rivers. And much of that water is infested with bacteria, parasites or leeches.
So, I started to think what I can do personally to help. I must tell you there are some wonderful agencies out there. Matt Damon is dedicated to water issue with his organization Water.org. I had a chance to meet a man named Doc, in a water conference, a young bartender from S. Carolina who started a non-profit organization called Wine to Water. My company has a wonderful Children’s Safe Drinking Water program and PUR sanitization tablets as a non-profit business, and I salute them for this.
Anyway, I decided to support MyCharity:Water. This is a non-profit organization where 100% of donations directly fund the water projects in the field and $20 can give someone access to clean and safe water. Even better, when the projects are complete, they'll show me just where our money went. We'll be able to see the GPS coordinates, photos and other details about the community we've impacted!
So, here is what I’ll do:
1) I’ll donate all my yoga teaching proceedings in next 3 months, to this organization.
2) I’ll teach a Reiki class in January to donate all proceedings to this cause.
3) I’ll give Reiki sessions (and you know that even though I would love to do, I don’t see clients for Reiki sessions. Just for this purpose, I’ll designate time to give Reiki sessions for donation purposes.)
4) In case you’d like to contribute with your donations, I‘ve started a campaign at MyCharity:Water as well.
